How to Care for Roses After Delivery (And Why You Shouldn’t Leave Them in the Office All Weekend)
Roses are a classic gift for romance, anniversaries, birthdays, and “just because” moments. The good news: a few simple steps can make a big difference in how long your roses stay beautiful.

1) Trim the Stems Right Away
As soon as your roses arrive, remove any wrapping around the stems and cut about 1 inch off the bottom of each stem. Cut at a slight angle. This helps the stems absorb water more efficiently and supports quick hydration.
2) Start with a Clean Vase and Fresh Water
Bacteria is one of the fastest ways to shorten the life of flowers. Rinse your vase thoroughly before use. Fill it with clean, cool water. If your roses came with flower food, add it and stir gently.
3) Change the Water Every 1–2 Days
Fresh water keeps roses hydrated and slows bacterial growth. Every day or two, pour out the old water, rinse the vase, and refill with clean water. If you can, re-trim a small amount off the stems when you do this.
4) Keep Roses Cool and Out of Direct Sun
Roses last longest in a cool spot. Avoid placing your arrangement near heaters, sunny windows, vents, or on top of appliances. Heat speeds up blooming and can reduce vase life.
5) Don’t Leave Roses in the Office Over the Weekend
This is the most common mistake we see with workplace deliveries. Offices often change temperature settings over the weekend, and arrangements can run low on water or sit in water that turns cloudy. Even a beautiful bouquet can fade quickly if it’s left unattended for two days.
If your roses arrive on a Thursday or Friday, take them home before you leave—refresh the water, trim the stems a touch, and keep them in a cool spot so they stay gorgeous through the weekend.
6) Remove Guard Petals If Needed
Roses sometimes arrive with a few outer petals (called guard petals) that look slightly darker or more bruised. This is normal and helps protect the rose during transport. If you notice a couple of tired-looking outer petals, gently remove them to reveal the fresh petals underneath.
